A Night In The Cells – BESL Raise Money For Mayor’s Charities

We were delighted to recently welcome the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Cardiff to Fairwater Community Campus ahead of their fundraising event, ‘A Night in the Cells’, in support of their two chosen charities: Forget Me Not Chorus and Rescue Hotel.

During their visit, they kindly hosted a coffee morning on site, helping to raise funds and awareness for these charities. It was a brilliant opportunity for everyone involved to come together for a worthwhile cause, and fantastic to see the support shown across the project team and supply chain.

While visiting Fairwater Community Campus, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress were also given a tour of the development, showcasing the progress being made and highlighting the positive impact the project will have for the local community and future generations.

As part of the fundraising efforts, our Social Value Manager, Sarah Burge, bravely took part in the ‘A Night in the Cells’ charity challenge, an experience involving being arrested’, interrogated, fingerprinted, having mugshots taken and spending the evening behind bars, all in the name of raising money for charity.

To make things even more entertaining, supporters who donated were given the chance to decide Sarah’s ‘charges’, which included unpaid parking fines, anti-social behaviour, drunk and disorderly conduct, and even indecent exposure!

Most importantly, thanks to the generosity and support of colleagues, subcontractors, friends and family, an incredible £1,006 was raised for Forget Me Not Chorus and Rescue Hotel, two worthwhile charities making a positive difference within the community.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated, supported the event and helped decide Sarah’s fate for the evening. It was a memorable fundraiser for two amazing causes, and we are proud to have played a part in supporting the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Cardiff with their charitable efforts.
