In line with our social value initiatives for the Fairwater Community Campus project, BESL recently organised a series of donations to local food banks - The Llanrumney Hall Pantry, Emmanuel Baptist Church Food Bank, and FareShare Cymru. Each organisation received a donation of £250, either in the form of produce to stock their shelves or a cash contribution to support their services.
The Llanrumney Hall Pantry is a community food facility that provides affordable and accessible heavily subsidised food and household essentials to residents of Llanrumney on a weekly basis. This essential service has become a lifeline for many in the area and has served thousands of customers in the almost 5 years since its creation.
Emmanuel Baptist Church operates a weekly food bank through their church in Gabalfa, supporting individuals and families struggling to access food. They believe no one should have to go hungry and work tirelessly to provide essential supplies and a welcoming environment for those in need.
FareShare Cymru works to combat hunger and reduce food waste across the UK by redistributing surplus food to charities. For every £1 donated, FareShare are able to redistribute the equivalent of four meals to food bank facilities – so we’re pleased that our £250 donation will put 1,000 meals on the table for local families.
These organisations are doing incredible work in our communities, and we’re proud to support them. According to The Food Foundation, 1.1 million people in the UK are struggling to get enough to eat - representing nearly 1 in 6 of the population. We hope our contributions have made a meaningful difference for those in need across Cardiff.
