As works continue at Fairwater Community Campus, BESL recently helped facilitate the donation of several cookers to NuLife, a charity that supports individuals and families who have experienced homelessness or financial hardship.
With temporary school buildings being removed following Cantonian High School’s move into its new facility, there was an opportunity to ensure that serviceable appliances did not go to waste. Working in collaboration with Portakabin during the removal process, the team identified items that could be reused and redirected them to where they would have a meaningful impact.
Before leaving site, all appliances were fully checked and PAT tested to ensure they were safe and ready for immediate use. This allowed the cookers to be passed on quickly and confidently to those who need them most.
For us at BESL, projects are not only about delivering works on site, they’re also about recognising opportunities to support the communities around them. Choosing reuse over disposal is a practical step that reduces waste while creating genuine social value.
We’re pleased to have played a part in ensuring these appliances will now help people settle into safe and secure homes, rather than being discarded. It’s a simple but meaningful example of how collaboration on site can extend beyond construction and deliver lasting community impact.
