What started as a request for help for one community organisation quickly became something much bigger, highlighting what can be achieved when businesses, volunteers, charities and local residents come together with a shared purpose.

Rumney Forum Community Centre (a local charitable organisation) recently received significant support from local businesses, contractors, volunteers and residents following a request for help with improvement and organisational works at the centre. Rumney Forum provides vital support to vulnerable individuals and families within the local community, including food support, clothing, household essentials and community meals.

Recognising the increasing pressure on the centre and the importance of protecting such a valuable community resource, BESL/CMB Engineering Managing Director, Steve Borley, reached out to local businesses, contractors, volunteers and community members asking for support with improvement and organisational works at Rumney Forum Community Centre. The response saw a large number of organisations and individuals come together to support the clean-up, reorganisation and wider improvement of the centre.

During the volunteer day, two skips of waste and unwanted items were cleared, helping improve the space and redistribute useful donations to other organisations and community groups across the region.

A large quantity of camping and outdoor equipment was donated to the 28th Scouts, including 14 tents, 9 sleeping mats, 20 sleeping bags, 8 air beds, 3 mosquito nets and additional camping equipment.

Tyndall Court also received donations including coats, clothing and hair styling items to support residents and future wellbeing initiatives. In addition, six boxes of towels and blankets were donated to local dog charities.

Several businesses also provided professional services and operational support to assist Rumney Forum moving forward. James Burgon of Cambria Consulting Ltd completed a structural report, Louis Read of Twenty4 Fire & Security carried out a fire risk assessment, and Prichard Holdings donated skips and waste collection services for the clean-up operation.

Additional support was provided by CMB Maintenance Director, Liam Wozencroft, and members of his maintenance team, alongside staff from CMB Engineering, Evans Electrical and Cambria Consulting, who all assisted with clearing, sorting and organising the centre. Local residents also supported the wider effort by using donated items to help raise funds for community causes, while Rumney Forum volunteers provided refreshments and lunch for everyone involved throughout the day.

A Rumney Forum spokesperson commented:

“A huge thank you to CMB Engineering for stepping forward and offering support to Rumney Forum during such a difficult time. The kindness, encouragement and practical help being offered is a powerful reminder of what community is all about.

We are incredibly grateful for everyone standing with us and helping protect vital community support within Cardiff.”

What this initiative has shown is that real community support goes far beyond one organisation or one clean-up day. By bringing people together, the project has not only supported Rumney Forum Community Centre but has also created a ripple effect that has benefited scout groups, homelessness support initiatives, animal charities, wellbeing programmes and local fundraising efforts.

BESL looks forward to continuing to support projects and initiatives that make a positive impact within local communities and bring organisations together for meaningful causes.
