Over the past week, we were proud to support a fantastic series of LEGO League finals delivered in collaboration with Cardiff Commitment, engaging 21 schools across three event days ranging from primary through to secondary level education.
The events brought schools together to take part in a range of engineering, coding and problem-solving challenges based around this year’s “Unearthed” theme. Throughout the competition, students designed, built and programmed LEGO robots to complete a series of mission-based tasks, showcasing impressive levels of creativity, teamwork and innovation.
The finals highlighted the enthusiasm and talent of pupils from across Cardiff, with schools working through weeks of preparation leading up to the event. Students were responsible for developing and coding their robots in advance, before putting their creations to the test during the live competition days.
Our colleagues Sarah Burge and Ian Jones spent two days supporting the finals as referees. Their role helped ensure the events ran smoothly while also encouraging and supporting students throughout the competition.
It was fantastic to see such a strong mix of schools involved, including both first time participants and schools that have returned to the programme year after year. The continued growth and engagement within the initiative reflects the long-term value of projects like LEGO League in helping young people develop confidence and skills within STEM subjects.
At BESL, we are proud to support Cardiff Commitment in delivering such an inspiring initiative and to work alongside volunteers from STEM organisations and industry partners who helped make the events possible. Programmes like this play an important role in encouraging the next generation to explore opportunities within science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
We look forward to continuing to support initiatives like this in the future and helping inspire young people to develop skills, confidence and interest in STEM related careers.
