BESL Team Attend Local Careers Event

At BESL, we are passionate about supporting greater diversity within the construction industry and actively encouraging more women to consider it as a rewarding and accessible career path. With this in mind, we were delighted to be invited by Cardiff Council to attend a recent ‘Women Into’ Roadshow, held at Cardiff West High School.

The event created a welcoming and inclusive environment where attendees could explore new opportunities, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of what a future in construction could look like.

During the event, we spoke with attendees about the wide range of roles available within the industry. Construction offers far more than many people expect; from hands-on, on-site roles to office-based careers in areas such as project management, design, estimating, health and safety, and administration. This variety means there are opportunities to suit a broad mix of skills, interests, and experience levels.

We were particularly keen to highlight that construction is an inclusive and evolving industry. While it has traditionally been male-dominated, more women are now entering the field and building successful, long-term careers. By sharing insights and real-world experiences, we hope to challenge outdated perceptions and demonstrate that construction is a space where everyone can thrive.

We were also pleased to offer practical advice on the different pathways into the industry. Whether through apprenticeships, further education, or direct entry roles, there are multiple routes available. We discussed how to gain relevant qualifications and provided guidance on obtaining a CSCS card, an essential requirement for those looking to work on-site.

At BESL, we believe that engaging with the community and sharing knowledge is key to inspiring future talent. Events like the ‘Women Into’ Roadshow play an important role in opening doors and raising awareness, and we are proud to support initiatives that encourage more women to explore the many opportunities construction has to offer.
