As we approach World Mental Health Day, BESL recently hosted a dedicated mental health session for our apprentices, recognising the importance of wellbeing both in life and throughout their careers in construction.
23 of our 1st – 4th year apprentices attended a talk delivered by Justin Manley from Titanium Talks, who spoke on the realities and practicalities they may face, not just in the workplace but in everyday life. The session highlighted the importance of confidence, optimism, and bravery, encouraging apprentices to approach challenges with resilience and a positive mindset.
To bring his message to life, Justin carried out a practical demonstration with one of the 2nd year apprentices, Pedro Sousa. The exercise Justin carried out (which we won’t give away the details on as it involves some mystery) reminded the group of the value of thinking outside the box and never giving up when faced with challenges.
To close the session, BESL Managing Director, Steve Borley, shared a powerful message about the values at the heart of BESL. He reminded apprentices that the company’s success is rooted in its people, adding: “We’re only as good as the people we employ.” His words underlined the company’s long-term commitment to nurturing talent through our ‘train and retain’ policy and through providing the right support for personal and professional growth. By linking the company’s achievements to the efforts of its apprentices and employees, his message reinforced that each person’s contribution truly matters.
This session was another important step in breaking down the stigma around mental health, showing our apprentices that asking for support is a strength, and reminding them that at BESL, their well-being matters.
